Chlorophyll Green Supports Life

One of the things I have learned to appreciate is the color of chlorophyll green in the environment around myself.

The Food Producer

When the Creator made the plants, he designed them to do something very little else on Earth can do … take sunlight and turn it into stored energy in a usable form like sugar and starch. This is one of the incredible achievements of the chlorophyll molecule. This storage is the basis of food for animals and man.

The Oxygen Producer

Another remarkable action by the chlorophyll molecule is the production of oxygen during the chemical reaction that takes carbon dioxide and sunlight and turns them into sugar. The abundantly replenished supply of oxygen around the Earth was designed by the Creator in the plants that were produced on day three of Creation Week.

Plants are Not Alive

Years ago, as I began reading Scripture and learning the Creationist view of life, it surprised me to learn the from this perspective, plants are not alive. Evidence for this is quite striking. First and foremost, within Scripture plants are never described as dying but instead as wilting. Secondly, plants were created on the third day of the Creation Week and then given to animals and man as food. Since there was no death prior to sin entering the world, eating plants, as man and animal would do, could not have been considered the killing or death of something. Thirdly, life is sometimes described as creatures that have ‘the breath of life’ which implies breathing oxygen. Plants take in carbon dioxide (which is harmful to life) and they release oxygen (which is beneficial to life). Lastly, plants do not have blood, something that Scripture strongly ties together with life.
