One example of this habitat is at the summit of the Appalachian Trail. At an elevation of 6,652 feet, this forest habitat is home to many rare or unusual plants and animals. They must acclimate to the colder weather and the heavy rainfall that occurs here, but not in the surrounding lowlands.
